Job Details Standard Bank is a leading African banking group focused on emerging markets globally. We are a firm believer in technical innovation, to help us guarantee exceptional client service and leading edge financial solutions. Our growing global success reflects our commitment to the latest solutions, the best people, and a uniquely flexible and vibrant working culture. To help us drive our success into the future, we are looking for an experienced UI Designer to join one of product teams at our Johannesburg offices. Job Purpose We're in the process of developing an innovative corporate banking solution that we hope will revolutionise the way businesses interact with us in the future. We have a strong team that has built out the platform over the past 8 months and we are now in the process of adding features as well as rolling out the product in different countries across Africa. As such, we're looking for a UI Designer to join our growing team as we establish and develop the product. We work in a fast-paced, agile environment and aim to be closer to a start-up than an in-house banking team and need someone who matches this style of working and is motivated to deliver high quality, modern designs. You'll be working within a world-class, multi-disciplinary team including UX designers, BAs, developers and testers to turn wireframes into high fidelity prototypes and manage the design system, with a user-centred focus. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities Work closely with our UX Designer to create high fidelity scalable screens from provided wireframes according to design standards and templates. Creation of other assets such as icons and components following any brand guidelines and aligning with marketing Design system management and maintenance. Keeping consistency between the component/symbol library (utilising atomic design principles) with the live system. Regular reviews of the system to make sure usability is high on desktop, tablet and mobile; consistent evolution of UI elements to improve usability. Works with the dev and testing teams to ensure that designs are correctly implemented, and fixes potential errors or bugs. Proactively engage with business analysts to ensure that interface matches design specifications. Takes a user-centric approach to design, having an understanding of the target user and their problems. Create clickable prototypes to present in management meetings to senior stakeholders; working to buy in the entire team to the design vision. Preferred Qualification and Experience Preferred Qualifications and Experience We're looking for a designer with at least 2 years of relevant in-industry experience, within a lean, agile environment. The most important experience(s) you can share are those which demonstrate your capability to deliver on the requirements above. We want to see capability, not box-ticking exercises. We currently design in Figma, but if you have experience in Sketch, you'll be able to learn quick enough. Experience using Jira and Confluence are also highly desired. Experience designing responsive products for B2B and B2C users. Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise Someone who approaches problems with a design-thinking approach, with a willingness to understand their users, test, iterate, and continually improve their designs. Well versed in design tools (Sketch/Figma/Adobe XD) and is able to consistently create beautiful, usable designs to tight deadlines, matching the specifications and being easily absorbed and developed by our front and back end developers. Critical and strategic thinking: the ideal candidate will not only be able to create great screens but will critically approach their design and constantly aim to challenge their colleagues to create better products for our customers. We're building a product for the 2020s, not the 2010s, so a keen knowledge of modern UX and UI patterns is essential. A strong knowledge and appreciation of the development process, and how design can augment good development. A keen eye for detail - we don't need a perfectionist, but we want someone that we can rely on to deliver consistent designs with few errors. Stakeholder management: we need someone who does not design in a vacuum but understands that design is a collaborative process and that they need to involve others in their process. We're looking for a true team player who understands the importance of not only their job but everyone else's, too. Timely design: We need someone who will be able to meet important deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of output. Other bonus skills: illustration, workshop facilitation, UX knowledge, copywriting. Culturally, we want: Someone driven, who takes the initiative, and who works well in teams No ego: getting the job done is a team effort and we all work together to bring out the best in each other A radiator, not a drain: you need to transmit enthusiasm, confidence and energy to the team. We love a sense of humour!
